rtist Heleen Cornet has lived and worked
in the Caribbean since 1974 and since
1986 on Saba. The rich nature of this small
Caribbean island is for her an endless
source of inspiration. She got special fame for her
“Rainforest Paintings” impressions of the lush cloud
forest on Mount Scenery, the dormant volcano of
Saba.
In a special mix of techniques including oil,
watercolor and ink wash on canvas, she manages to
capture the mysterious atmosphere of this tropical
forest like no other. Her sometimes almost graphic
impressions of coral reefs around the islands form
a special theme in her work. For her innovative use
of watercolor techniques she gained international
recognition in 2010 with an honorable mention at
the International Triennial of Caribbean Art in Santo
Domingo.
Heleen regularly exhibits in the Caribbean region
and sometimes beyond, such as in Rio de Janeiro
and New York City 2012 and Fundatie in Zwolle,
2015. She is also an author.
