Over the last few years in particular (although some projects and programmes are long-standing), the ANT
has been involved in a number of projects and programmes that fell within our larger work programme
areas. Many of these initiatives are on-going, have received external financial assistance from funding
mechanisms in the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Caribbean, and complement and support
the work of numerous Government of Anguilla Ministries and Departments.
Terrestrial and Wetlands Conservation
Anguilla Seed to Tree Programme - promoting and facilitating the
planting of native vegetation
Conserving Species and Sites through the Eradication of Invasive
Species - biosecurity monitoring on Dog Island
Developing a Platform for Wetland Conservation - facilitating the
designation of Sombrero Island as Anguilla’s first Ramsar site – which
was confirmed last year.
Dog Island Restoration Project - after being officially declared rat-
free in 2014, on-going monitoring of Dog Island to assess impact of
the rat eradication programme on the island’s biodiversity.
Racer Snake Conservation Programme - initial assessment of
Anguilla’s Racer Snake population to inform global species status.
Wetland and Terrestrial Bird Monitoring Programme - monitoring
land and wetland birds on the Anguilla mainland to determine status
and trends of bird species.
