PLACES OF INTEREST
St. Peter’s Church
Located in the center of St.
George, this is the oldest
Anglican church in the
Western Hemisphere that has
been in constant use since its
construction in 1612. A walk
throughout the church and its
grounds will delight history
buffs. Its historic graveyard is
separated into two sections
- one was used for slaves and
the other for whites - pause
to read the headstones. After
the church’s Bermuda cedar
structure was destroyed by
a hurricane in 1713, it was
rebuilt in stone. With its long
varied history, it is certainly a
nice place to visit.
