Wetland Habitat Assessments- assessing all 25 wetlands on the Anguilla mainland to determine status and trends – to be expanded to the offshore cays in 2018.
Seabird Monitoring Programme- monitoring of the seabird populations on Anguilla’ s offshore cays to determine status and trends and identify regional and global sites of importance.
Using Seabirds to Inform Marine Spatial Planning a two-year initial programme to determine the main foraging areas of Anguilla’ s seabirds to help identify important fish areas.
Lesser Antillean Iguana Recovery programme- the creation of an iguana sanctuary on Prickly Pear East with the reintroduction of founder population in 2016 – to be expanded beginning in 2017.
Marine and Coastal Conservation
Anguilla Fisherfolk Association- assisting the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources and the Fisherfolk Action Learning Group with the establishment of Anguilla’ s first Fisherfolk Association.
Anguilla Sea Turtle Monitoring Programme- monitoring of Anguilla’ s mainland and offshore cay beaches for sea turtle nesting activity to assist with population and species status, to inform national and regional species conservation, and identification of critical habitats.
Coastal Habitat Assessments- assessing 33 beaches on the Anguilla mainland to determine status and trends – to be expanded to the offshore cays in 2019.
Save the Sand- collaborative project with Anguilla’ s private sector to raise awareness about the importance of Anguilla’ s sand resources and the offering of beach sand alternatives to reduce illegal sand mining activities.
Protected Areas Management
Big Spring Heritage Site- management of and tours through Big Spring Heritage Site – over 300 individuals taken through the site, including Primary and Secondary School students.
East End Pond Conservation Area- revision of the site’ s management plan, habitat restoration, grounds maintenance, bird watching activities, wetlands education.
Fountain Cavern National Park- site protection
Culture and Heritage
Old East End School- restored and rented at a daily rate for functions.
The Old Police Station- restored and rented as office space.
Public Awareness, Education, and Stewardship
School programmes- presentations, field trips, tours to over 900 students in 2016.
Print- newspaper articles and press releases, TRUE Anguilla magazine, brochures.
Web-based / Social Media Communication- new website [ www. axanationaltrust. com ], facebook [ over 1100 followers ], twitter, instagram).
Annual Camps- Adventure Anguilla [ 25 students annually ], Where the Wild Things Are [ 15 students ], Zenaida Haven Environmental Camp [ 5 young people ], Outdoor Adventure Camp [ 20 young people ].
ANT Heritage Tours- over 900 students taken on Heritage School.
Monthly Members’ Activity- exploring Anguilla with ANT members every month.
After School Programmes- Environment. Research. Action. Programme [ bridging theory with practical conservation research and action ], Young Explorers [ exploring and seeing Anguilla’ s wild spaces ].
