The Editor Says . . .
Welcome to our first issue of 2021 . Although the past year has brought with it many challenges and losses , we are optimisitc that this year will be better . We encourage you to find creative ways to engage in leisure activites and explorations in your various countries , in a safe , responsible manner , while adhering to whatever Covid-19 protocols that are in place . Enjoy the outdoors , go hiking , swimming or biking . Maintaining good mental health and well-being is crucial at this time , so stay active , eat healthy meals , stay in touch with friends and family and , look out for each other .
To those who are not able to venture out safely because of more severe restrictions in your country , curl up on the couch with a digital device and navigate to our magazine . Browse through the current and back issues and travel virtually to the Caribbean via our pages . Read about people , places , culture , food , music , events and more . We hope you will be inspired to make the Caribbean one of the first places you ’ ll travel to when you feel comfortable to do so . Each island has its travel advisories which will guide your travel plans . We ’ ve provided a convenient link to them on page 125 .
While those plans are being made , we invite you to consider exploring the Kalinago Territory on the island of Dominica . It is the home of the island ’ s indigenous people , whose unique brand of tourism pays homage to their ancestors , as they welcome you into their villages , sharing their history , culture , food and traditions , with warmth and hospitality . We say a heartfelt thank you to Kalinago Chief , Lorenzo Sanford , who shared with us insights into the ancestral heritage of the people he leads . His photo graces the cover of this issue . To Kalinago Tours , Tilou Kanawa Restaurant and the Shaman who is also the leader of the cultural group that captivates with traditional dances , drumming and storytelling , we also express our thanks .
