I LOVE THAT THESE THINGS DON ’ T END UP IN THE LANDFILL , AND THAT WE REPURPOSE ITEMS BECAUSE WE DON ’ T NEED TO MANUFACTURE MORE STUFF !
What does sustainability look like in Vancouver ?
For decades , locals have carried around their own water bottles and reusable shopping bags , but people also set out items they don ’ t want any more , and they ’ re usually in great shape . People in my area have money but not much space for storage , so I ’ ve been the happy recipient of a sofa , leather club chair , cedar-lined hope chest , dressers , tables and futon frame . All of them were in pristine condition , lovingly set out in the alley or on the sidewalk . I ’ ve found barely worn shoes and clothes , all in amazing condition and on trend . I call it alleyshopping ! It helps me survive in this crazy expensive city . I love that these things don ’ t end up in the landfill , and that we repurpose items because we don ’ t need to manufacture more stuff ! We also have little libraries , where people leave books .
