What are some other traditional foods or drinks , and how are they a part of Maldivian traditions ?
Many local restaurants do not serve the dishes that we serve . Rihaakuru Dhiya is cold fish paste gravy over grilled tuna steak . Masveriya is a traditional tuna rice bowl . Kaliyaa Birinji is a version of Maldivian biryani . Fenuparee is a mixed seafood soup .
We use a lot of coconut and tuna in our recipes . Most of our ancestors had very limited access to foreign ingredients , so they made use of most of what ’ s available , such as dhand aluvi ( kasawa ), kattala ( sweet potato ), banbukeyo ( breadfruit ), olhu ala ( taro ) and hiththala ( jicama ).
