My name is Damaris Carrillo Samaniego . I am 24 years old , of Chilean nationality born in the Comuna de Cunco , Araucanía Region . I currently live with my parents , my 13-year-old brother and my 1-year-old daughter , Isabella , in the heart of Melipeuco .
My primary and secondary education was carried out at the Bicentennial School of Excellence Adenauer , Melipeuco , where I excelled in dance and outdoor sports . From the age of 15 , I developed a passion for the Institución de bomberos de Chile ( Firefighters Institution of Chile ) and entered as a cadet to the First Fire Company of the commune of Melipeuco . It is here I give my effort and dedication to this beautiful work . Regardless of my disability , I continue to perform pumping roles .
I later continued my education at the Catholic University of Temuco , entering a career in Risk Prevention . During my first year , on December
31 , 2016 , my life took a 180-degree turn . At approximately 10:30 AM the bus taking me home , overturned . It was then life gave me a second chance .
While recovering from physical wounds I realized I could not give up and let myself be overcome by the temptation of self-pity . During my rehabilitation , I drew on strength I didn ’ t know I had and faced my new condition with faith . One of my first opportunities to see life with hope was upon entering the Teleton
