MISS SPAIN
Hello , my name is Silvia Arbelo Gonzalez . I ’ m from Spain , more exactly from the Canary Islands , and am 40 years old . I had my son when I was young ; he is now 24 years old . I have been in a wheelchair for 20 years as a result of an accident .
I was a welder and one day I was climbing on a roof of an industrial building installing metal plates . I stepped on one in bad condition and fell 7 meters . I suffered polytraumatism and a spinal cord injury that left me in a wheelchair .
After being in the hospital for 9 months , I started my new life . I began with sports and first tried basketball . It didn ’ t convince me , so
I followed my dreams with dance . I met Zumba fitness and my life changed . At first , the instructor told me she didn ’ t know if I could do it in the wheelchair , but she didn ’ t discourage me . I said , “ I ’ ll try ,” and found I could do it with time . I became a Zumba instructor for people with , and without , disabilities and I realized that I could achieve anything I wanted .
I was chosen to train as a rally driver , and of course , I did it by using an adapted car . Then , I was chosen to join a theater group , and to this day , I am still an actress . I am passionate about theater .
The world of beauty has always been in my life as I ’ ve always been very flirtatious . Being in a wheelchair doesn ’ t stop me from wanting to dress up . I model for a store , another one of my hobbies , and have participated in women ’ s contests for more than 30 years . I fight for inclusion as I am the only one in a wheelchair . I believe nothing prevents us from achieving our goals and objectives .
I am thrilled to have been selected to participate in Miss Wheelchair World 2022 , representing my country , Spain . It is a dream for me . I am also very happy for the rest of my pageant partners .
