The Cascina Merlata district project is one of urban
requalification: the complex comprises 11 tower
buildings, 7 of which have been completed. It has
involved several planning studios – CZA, C+S, MC
A, b22, PURA and Teknoarch – and been developed
to the most advanced principles of sustainability
to create a class A district with zero footprint.
The furnishing project was drawn up the Design
Department of the Milan Polytechnic (Luisa Collina,
Massimo Antinarelli and Laura Galluzzo)
From 1 March to 31 December 2015 the buildings
will be used as the Expo Village and will give
temporary accommodation to the delegates and
staff of the countries taking part in the EXPO.
When this temporary hospitality stage is over a social
housing plan promoted by EuroMilano S.p.A. will
assign the residences at subsidized rents, or offer
48
them at controlled prices to young couples,
single income families, students studying away
from home, and elderly people. This will make
Cascina Merlata the biggest social housing
development in Italy, set up on behalf of the
“Cascina Merlata Social Housing” Fund.
The role of official supplier for the Veneto

renowned throughout the world.
