A Flock of Seagulls

No tribute to the 80s would be complete without the hit single and music video favorite “I Ran (So Far Away)” – along with the outrageous hair – of synth-pop rockers A Flock of Seagulls. Consisting of brothers Michael “Mike” Score (keyboards, vocals) and Alister “Ali” James Score (drums), Francis Lee (Frank) Maudsley (bass), and Paul Reynolds (guitar), the Liverpool-based group gained an international following with additional hits like “Space Age Love Song,” “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” and “The More You Live, the More You Love.” The band also won a Grammy for the track “D.N.A.” in 1983. A Flock of Seagulls split in 1985, but Mike Score reincarnated the band 10 years later and tours to this day with new members Joe Rodriguez, Pando and Michael Brahm.

Modern English

Stop the world – or at least the boat – with this exciting addition to our lineup! British new wave rockers Modern English topped the charts in the early 80s with their smash hit, “I Melt With You.” Originally calling themselves The Lepers, the band formed in 1979 out of Colchester, Essex, England. With Robbie Grey on vocals, Gary McDowell on guitar and vocals, and Michael Conroy on bass and vocals, the group renamed itself Modern English when Richard Brown and Stephen Walker joined on drums and keyboard, respectively. Modern English disbanded in 1987 and again in 1991, recorded in 1995 with new members, and reunited in its original lineup in 2010. Today, the future’s open wide, and the band continues to tour the United States and Europe.

Naked Eyes

Following a stream of smash hits like “Always Something There To Remind Me” and “Promises Promises” and heavy rotation on U.S. radio and MTV, British new wave band Naked Eyes took a hiatus to pursue the individual endeavors of singer Pete Byrne and key boardist Rob Fisher. During the break, Byrne collaborated with Stevie Wonder and produced songs for the Olsen twins while Fisher worked on albums with vocalist Simon Climie. But the synth-pop duo always intended to reunite and did so in 1999 to work on a third album. Sadly, Fisher’s untimely death that summer prevented Naked Eyes from finishing the project. But Byrne refused to let the Naked Eyes die with the passing of his band mate and has since released a critically acclaimed, 10-song acoustic album with covers of Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Elvis Costello as well as the band’s own hits and toured with the likes of 80s greats including Belinda Carlisle and The Go-Gos
