Opportunities abound for a free flu shot in Englewood

If you are looking to get your flu shot and stay flu-free this winter, go to these locations for the vaccine, courtesy of Walgreens and the Englewood Health Department.
-Free flu shots for adults will be given by Walgreens of Englewood at the West Palisade Avenue Latino Festival on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 1 to 5 p. m.
-Free flu shots for adults will be given by Walgreens of Englewood on Monday, Oct. 23, from 10 a. m. to 1 p. m., and on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 8 p. m. at the Englewood Public Library.
-Free flu shots for children ages 6 months to 18 years old will be given on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. at the Englewood Health Department located at 73 South Van Brunt St.
The flu vaccine was first used on U. S. soldiers during World War II, and it was partially developed by Jonas Salk, the same person who is credited with the development of the polio vaccine in 1955. The U. S. military was very interested in developing a vaccine against the flu because during the First World War, approximately 43,000 American service members died from the disease. During the 2015-2016 flu season, the CDC estimates that 57,062 citizens died from influenza / pneumonia, which was the eighth leading cause of death in the United States. benefits of their hard work by making recipes using ingredients grown from the garden. Friends of the John T. Wright Arena announceupcoming events

The Friends of the John T. Wright Arena is excited to announce the Grand-Reopening celebration of the ice skating rink will be held at the Mackay Park Arena on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 2 to 5 p. m.
Sponsors of this event include the New Jersey Devils and Ice Cream on Grand. A New Jersey Devils Alumnus and Mascot will be there and Ice Cream on Grand will be scooping out ice cream.
Once again, there will be a performance by the Dwight Morrow High School Marching Band. Hockey NJ will be on site to take registrations, offering a hockey program free for Englewood residents, equipment provided. Admission to the rink is $ 5 including skate rentals.
The Grand Re-opening celebration is taking place in conjunction with the opening of the Englewood Historical Society exhibit at the Mackay Park Gatehouse.
Save the date for the Annual Englewood Winter Party at the Mackay Ice Rink on Sunday, Dec. 10, from 1 to 5 p. m. Admission will be free and refreshments will be served.
