A Wild Obsession
Scrolling down Instagram and seeing kids play with a baby tiger in the massive
backyards of their mansions is what got me thinking about this matter. I was not born in the
United Arab Emirates, but I was bred there, and I’ve witnessed that the people there, particularly
the incredibly rich ones whose houses resemble castles, have a weird obsession with wild
animals. I remember once when I was stuck in a terrible traffic, my curiosity got the better of me
and I commenced to observe the cars around me. Absentmindedly, I looked around for a few
seconds and at some point, something unnatural and bizarre caught my attention and left me
speechless, and that was a baby tiger’s head poking out of the passenger seat window of some
massive car. It is impossible to describe what went on in my incredibly confused head, for I was
unable to comprehend the sight which was right there in front of me. I had been used to seeing
tigers and lions in zoos, and not in the backseat of someone’s car. I feel as though that sight was
the beginning of some cautionary tale about how an innocent baby tiger grows into a ferocious
beast and devours its owners and their little children. I have to admit that my imagination is
pretty wild, but so are these animals. However, to further analyze this particular issue that
prevails in our world, particularly in the East, I will introduce you to several sources I stumbled
upon when researching into this topic and hopefully, they will shed the much needed light on this
ridiculous issue. Some people believe that owning and keeping exotic pets should be legal, since
they are capable of taking good care of such animals keeping animal welfare in minds, but others
