The 1950’s dresses were all about the bigger the better and a whole lot of tulle. These dresses are amazing because of how the cut emphasises a woman waist as well as creates the idea of the perfect fairytale wedding. The women in the audience had to catch their breath, literally, when Darb Bridal Couture and Rayner Lee came out in the perfect fairy tale collection of dresses. ent designers ranging in swimwear, resort wear, formal wear, casual and bridal couture. The top 3 stand out designers for me where Anna Hulum’s amazing resort wear, Suzii K’s casual chic collection and Otim Ajalia’s orginal take on men’s fashion! Each designer produced a unique take on Sprin/Summer trends and brought something creative and fresh to the fashion scene this season. Trends: There are three main trends this season when it comes to spring/summer fashion that are white on white, mix prints and minimalism. White on White – A number of designers that were featured in the MBFF chose to play on this season’s biggest trend. White on White has been featured on a number of celebrities sporting this trend and is a clean and fresh trend which brings a sense of luxury and chicness to any combination of garments. Bul and Lee Mathews featured these white on white trends and nailed them to the tee! Floral prints – While florals are a must for spring and we all know that this isn’t ground breaking news, it still is a staple that every one should incorporate into their wardrobe this season. It’s all about mixing different colours of florals and textures into garments this season. Ginger and Smart collection of tops and dresses, Pia du Pradals collection of floral suit racewear and Maiocchi ‘s elegant day dresses all executed the floral trend. Swim Wear: We are officially in spring so that means its time for the sun to come out which allows us to play, whether that is at the beach, park or anywhere out in Australia’s wonderful sun! Swimwear this season is all about colour, prints and innovative designs! The designers at Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival had a lot to offer in the swimwear department this season. The top three designers in swimwear this season who are right on-trend would have to be Seafolly, Aqua Blu Swimwear and Molly and Polly. Emerging Designer: The emerging designers show showcases up and coming Australian designers that are making their mark in the fashion industry. This show gives designers an amazing opportunity to display their work to the world and also allows the chance for buyers to purchase their collections. The runway showcased a variety of differ- Minimalism – Though making a statement with floral prints and white on white, minimalism takes spring fashion to another level of chicness with a variety of minimalist designs. Colour pallets are usually monochromatic, cuts are simple yet elegant and accessories are well, minimal. Wayne Cooper, sass & bide and Jason Brunsdon Black Label all used the minimalism technique by combining these minimalist designs into their collection. 13
