The 1950’s dresses were all about the bigger the better
and a whole lot of tulle. These dresses are amazing
because of how the cut emphasises a woman waist as
well as creates the idea of the perfect fairytale wedding.
The women in the audience had to catch their breath,
literally, when Darb Bridal Couture and Rayner Lee
came out in the perfect fairy tale collection of dresses.
ent designers ranging in swimwear, resort wear, formal
wear, casual and bridal couture. The top 3 stand out
designers for me where Anna Hulum’s amazing resort
wear, Suzii K’s casual chic collection and Otim Ajalia’s
orginal take on men’s fashion! Each designer produced
a unique take on Sprin/Summer trends and brought
something creative and fresh to the fashion scene this
season.
Trends:
There are three main trends this season when it comes
to spring/summer fashion that are white on white, mix
prints and minimalism.
White on White – A number of designers that were
featured in the MBFF chose to play on this season’s
biggest trend. White on White has been featured on a
number of celebrities sporting this trend and is a clean
and fresh trend which brings a sense of luxury and
chicness to any combination of garments. Bul and Lee
Mathews featured these white on white trends and
nailed them to the
tee!
Floral prints –
While florals are a
must for spring and
we all know that
this isn’t ground
breaking news, it
still is a staple that
every one should
incorporate into
their wardrobe this
season. It’s all about
mixing different colours of florals and
textures into garments this season.
Ginger and Smart
collection of tops
and dresses, Pia du
Pradals collection
of floral suit racewear and Maiocchi
‘s elegant day dresses all executed the
floral trend.
Swim Wear:
We are officially in spring so that means
its time for the sun to come out which
allows us to play, whether that is at the
beach, park or anywhere out in Australia’s
wonderful sun! Swimwear this season is all
about colour, prints and innovative designs!
The designers at Mercedes Benz Fashion
Festival had a lot to offer in the swimwear
department this season. The top three designers in swimwear this season who are
right on-trend would have to be Seafolly,
Aqua Blu Swimwear and Molly and Polly.
Emerging Designer:
The emerging designers show showcases up and
coming Australian designers that are making their mark
in the fashion industry. This show gives designers an
amazing opportunity to display their work to the world
and also allows the chance for buyers to purchase their
collections. The runway showcased a variety of differ-
Minimalism –
Though making
a statement with
floral prints and
white on white,
minimalism takes
spring fashion to
another level of
chicness with a
variety of minimalist designs. Colour
pallets are usually
monochromatic,
cuts are simple yet
elegant and accessories are well, minimal. Wayne Cooper, sass & bide and
Jason Brunsdon Black Label all used the minimalism
technique by combining these minimalist designs into
their collection.
