was Elizabeth De Varger. Her flawless designs took the
“traditional” wedding gown to another level. Her designs
took reminiscence of the 1920’s with a modern twist.
It is that time of year again, where fashionistas around
Brisbane gather together for the highly anticipated 10
year anniversary of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival.
On the 26th of August Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival
hosted their Bridal and Emerging Designer shows. This
year’s fashion festival was held in the John Reid Pavilion
at the RNA Show Grounds and offered an urban atmosphere to the high-class event.
The entrance of the MBFF gates had 10 parked Mercedes Benz, all stylishly covered in eloquent and detailed
car wraps that represented 10 designers and fashion
influencers who are featured in this year’s festival. The
designers included Alex Perry, George Wu and even
Vogue Australia.
Inside the venue the lights were dim and photo/media
walls abound. The bar offered canapés and cocktails
while the doors to the fashion show remained closed
until it was time to be seated. Once the doors opened,
all were shocked at the amazing setting of the runway. It
was beautiful. The runway was set on ground level and
felt very New York Fashion Week. The backdrop was a
glass mural which overlooked the entire runway. Once
the guests were seated the Bridal show begun.

White pantsuits, playsuits and cropped two pieces were
the most original and modern while the traditional
dressed followed those closely to a 1920’s silhouette.
Another designer which made eyes pop out of their
heads at the amount of detail which was put into the
gowns was Jordanna Regan Design. Talk about thousands of glistening beads, ruffles of chiffon and intricate
head-pieces. Her designs were flawless, elegant and
timeless.
Jack Sullivan Designs delivered a gorgeous romantic collection this year with emphasis on blush pinks, creams
and champagne gowns. His “Hannah” gown was truly
made for princess bride. The stunning collection took
themes from the traditional white wedding and added a
young and sexy sophistication to his wedding dresses.
The closing designer that was the most highly anticipated designer for the night was the legendary George Wu.
Talk about a stunning eclectic and timeless collection!
His ancient Greek inspired wedding gowns featured
themes of Pegasus, the Catholic Church and Greek goddesses. It truly was an amazing collection that pushed
the boundaries and ideas of what a wedding gown
should look like and introduced new themes asides
from romanticism.
