Goldstein’s job is to forecast fashion trends for Belk. She makes
a living paying attention to fashion statements for both today
and tomorrow.
What if we applied a smidgen of Albright’s and Goldstein’s
efforts to our daily outfit choices? In addition to checking the
weather forecast each day, we could also check the fashion
forecast! Instead of just being guided by what will keep us
comfortable in any given weather, we could choose to wear
what will bring a smile to our faces, what will make a social or
personal commentary.

Two years ago, I attended an exhibit at the Mint Museum
Uptown featuring former Secretary of State Madeline Albright’s
pin collection. I learned Albright selected pins to wear to
her meetings for the day based on what social or personal
commentary the pins might contribute. What an inspired
