Golden shares the top 10 things to know about Lebanon Road Elementary School. TOP 10 1 LRE emphasizes parent and community participation. Our family advocate creates events, programs and trainings designed to assist parents with helping their kids grow educationally. 2 LRE has a support group for parents of autistic children and a parent book club. Both meet monthly. 3 Roughly 400-500 parents attend our quarterly lunches. We transform the gym into a restaurant, and parents and students enjoy lunch and a lesson. 4 Lebanon Road Young Men’s and Women’s mentoring groups meet twice a month for an hour. The students learn chivalry, appropriate dress codes and how to be successful young adults. The program improves students’ selfesteem and academics. 5 Vincent G. G o lden 20 – My School Rocks! | April 2014 Cultural Competency: LRE utilizes literacy, math and writing time to emphasize different cultures monthly. The program’s culminating activity highlights the culture of the month with an assembly or traveling classrooms. 6 Bookbags of Love: We are fortunate that our community churches come together every week to provide a bag of food for more than 50 children for weekend meals. 7 Local business professionals volunteer to tutor our children, serve as mentors and assist teachers. 8 Terrific Tuesday: We appreciate students’ improvements. Once a month, the Matthews Rotary Club comes in with Chick-fil-A to highlight a student from each classroom. These kids are rewarded for their academics, citizenship, behavior and improvements. At a small assembly, parents come and get photos taken with their children. These photos are displayed at a local Chick-fil-A and are published in the Mint Hill Times. 9 LRE has a great family atmosphere. Teachers and administrative staff treat each other like family, as do students and parents. 10 LRE wants students to read for the love of reading. We received 2,000 books at our annual book drive.
