The morning Amtrak train to Greensboro can allow you
and your kids to spend a few hours at the children’s
museum or the International Civil Rights Museum, then
ride the train home again in the evening. If your kids
have never ridden a real train, the ride will be its own
adventure!
Make reading fun. To prevent summer brain drain, plan
to sign kids up for the summer reading program at your
local library. Make daily reading time fun with a clever
name such as “Drop Everything and Read time” (DEAR
Time). Be a good role model by joining your child with
your own book. Motivate older kids by organizing a book
club for your child and a few of his or her friends.

FOUR IDEAS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
S
ummer break is still a few months
away, so it’s the perfect time to
start thinking about ways to have fun
with your kids after camp and on hot,
lazy weekends. Here are four ideas
guaranteed to amp up the fun this
summer.
Make a bucket list. Brainstorm a list
of everything each family member
wants to do over the summer. This
“Summer Fun List” is a great way
to make sure you do more than just
hang out at the pool. Some ideas:
Make ice cream. Play mini golf. Build
an awesome sand castle. Visit the
fire department. Go to the Belmont
Drive-in. Start the list now, and add
to it over the next two months.
