Nutcracker

When Marin Boulware was 3 years
old, her parents signed her up for
pre-ballet at the North Carolina
Dance Thater. Marin said she loved
the classes right away.
“It was easy and fun, and I like to
perform, too,” Marin explains. “I just
knew I wanted to dance.”
Marin, now 10, will share the Belk
stage with Gerberich, now 24, in
North Carolina’s Dance Theater’s

“Nutcracker,” Dec. 13-22. The
holiday classic transports the
audience to a magical place where
Christmas trees grow high enough
to reach the ceiling, and dreams
about a nutcracker and a mouse
king battling come true. The Sugar
Plum Fairy captures little girls’
hearts and a cast of other fairies,
plus Spanish, Russian, Arab and
Chinese dancers, fills the stage.
In 2005, NC Dance Theater artistic
director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux
began incorporating children into
