27. Writing.
Writing is the process of using
symbols (letters of the alphabet,
punctuation
and
spaces)
to
communicate thoughts and ideas in
a readable form.
To write clearly it is essential to
understand the basic system of a
language. In English this includes
knowledge of grammar, punctuation
and sentence structure. Vocabulary
is also necessary, as is correct
spelling and formatting.
Correct grammar, punctuation and
spelling
are
key
in
written
communications. The reader will
form an opinion of you, the author,
based on both the content and
presentation, and errors are likely to
lead them to form a negative
impression.
Writing skills are an important part of
communication. Good writing skills
allow you to communicate your
message with clarity and ease to a
far larger audience than through
face-to-face
or
telephone
conversations.
A writer may write for personal
enjoyment or use, or for an
audience of one person or more.
Taking notes for study purposes is
an example of writing for one's self.
It is important that you pay attention
to the basic rules for good written
English - accurate spelling and
correct use of grammar and
punctuation. Writing requires a more
elaborated communication, so that
student has time to work out the
message.
