And laughing, the night watch passed over the horizon that was always running. Still, it was still
night, and Danais looked up at the stars, and they seemed to blink out of her small eyes as if she knew
a lot of secrets.
- Why are the stars flashing? they wondered aloud, not even thinking they could hear it. That's why
he was surprised when he heard a few thin voices like bells:
- We're screaming because we're far away and we see it hard to you.
- How far is it far?
"So far, that it would not take you a lifetime trip to get to us.
- Does that mean you live longer than people?
- Oh yes! We are here long before you, before the Earth rises from the darkness.
"It means you are old," she concluded, "and she imagines how many wrinkles the stars should have
on the face. He stared at one of them, trying to figure out something, but his eyes tired of them, and
he saw nothing more than a small flashing light.
- The old man is the one who feels tired. Only the beings living on Earth are aging. Especially you,
the people.
- Why do people age?
- Because that's the law.
- What law?
Even then a bundle of reddish rays, like a bunch of roses, rose beyond the horizon, and afterwards
gradually, with a wide smile, appeared the sun, the king of the day.
- Why does the sun smile? she asked the stars.
But the stars began to hide as the sun drew their light curtains over them.
- I do not always smile, but when I'm happy with what I see, I laugh wholeheartedly. The sun
responds to the answer, warmly embracing her.
- And what do you see today?
"I see a whole world awakening from sleep, like an antler ready to burst beyond the edges of the
moss. I see happy or sad people, laborers or lazy, hungry or sick, each in its way - a lively world.
Sometimes I'm glad for a child who listens to your parents, sometimes for a mother who sways her
baby or for a good-looking grandmother who tells her grandchildren an interesting story.
- But why are you laughing sometimes?
The sun rose to such a question, and replied in a whisper:
- Because the Earth is trying to run away from me. Then it gets cold and I want to call him back.
- You mean you do not fight the winter?
- No, winter comes to Earth just because it's a little off of me. And that's only half. The other half
approaches a little and there is summer. If one step away, you would live forever in the lands of the
ice. In fact, if I'm thinking well, you will not live anymore. Without my light and heat, there is no life.
- But how do you make such a powerful light? What kind of fire do you ever have to quench?
- Well, that's a big story. Maybe another time we'll tell her together. Now is the time to wake up.
Dana opened her eyes under the comfort of the sun rays coming through the window of her
room. He smiled at him and hurried to start playing. She had dreamed nice and had received many
answers to her questions. Maybe they were not the answers that the big men would give her, but they
thanked her. After all, it is not happening every night to talk to the sun, the moon and the stars.
