Pinner builder keeps it local
A Pinner builder is encouraging local businesses to help residents struggling to get back to work. Shahin Farjami, who owns buildings and renovations company Des Res, has been working for the past two years with Harrow Council’s Xcite Project. Aimed at encouraging people who are out of work, the scheme links individuals with businesses looking to employ more dedicated sta?. For father-of-four Shahin, the connections he’s made have been mutually bene?cial. “These are local people who are out there desperate to prove themselves,” he explains. “They are not resting on their laurels and show a real willingness to work hard and learn from me.” With his main builder having been discovered through the project Shahin believes this is just a part of what being a true community business is about. “Everyone I am introduced to has been vetted by the council. They are skilled people looking for a break and I really feel what they are doing is honourable,” he continues. “I like being able to help people in the community. Most of the work we do is in Pinner or the surrounding area and comes from recommendations. We can walk into the local petrol station and be asked to ?x the toilet or be brought in to build the local Rabbi’s festive hut for the Sukkot festival.”

Having been introduced into the trade by his grandfather who was a carpenter, Shahin – who has lived in Harrow for 17 years – is delighted that his son is now part of the business too. “I love doing what I do where I do it and feeling like I am helping the people of Pinner, whether that’s through ?xing something, building something for them or employing them through this great scheme. That is what it is all about for me.” For more information visit www.desres4u.co.uk or call 07941 243536.
