Musical Festival
A local charity has been given a cash boost of £7,500 from money raised at the Pinner Music Festival. The fundraising e?orts took place during the four night event in June with independent medical research charity RAFT receiving the ?nancial injection. Based on the grounds of Mount Vernon Hospital, the organisation works to improve treatment for major skin injuries. With no statutory funding and £1.2million needed each year to continue its research, the charity is delighted with the gift. “We couldn’t be more thankful,” a spokesperson said. Award for Pinner Park
Pinner Memorial Park is one of ?ve open spaces in the borough to have been awarded National Green Flag status. The 13 acre site which includes a playground, café, ornamental pond, aviary and woodland walk was honoured after coming up trumps in eight areas including cleanliness, sustainability and conservation. Judged each year by some 800 volunteer expert judges they are the mark of quality green space in the UK. Pinner man is made a Peer
Pinner resident and Times newspaper associate editor Daniel Finkelstein has been made a Conservative Peer. The Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue member was including in a list of working peerages announced by Downing Street last month. Having previously been head of policy for the Tories, he is one of 14 nominations for the party in this round of political appointments to the House of Lords, bringing their total number to 222. Peers are not paid a salary but are given a £300 tax-free allowance for every day they attend a parliamentary sitting.
