My heritage The family tree | Page 12

Once there was a poor old man who could hardly see, his hearing was very clumsy and his knees were shaking. When he was at the table, he could barely hold his spoon, drop the cup on the tablecloth, and still sometimes escape the slime.

The wife of his son and his son were very upset with him, until finally, they left him in a corner of a room, where they brought his scant food in an old clay dish. The old man cried frequently and looked sadly at the table. One day he fell to the ground, and broke the bowl that could barely hold in his trembling hands. His daughter-in-law filled him with insults to which he did not dare answer, and lowered his head with a sigh. They then bought him a wooden tarterilla, in which he was fed from then on.

A few days later, his son and daughter-in-law saw their boy, who was a few years old, very busy gathering some pieces of wood on the ground.

- "What are you doing?" Asked his father.

- "A tartera, he answered, to feed dad and mom when they are old."

The husband and wife looked at each other for a moment without saying a word. Then they began to cry, they put the grandfather back at the table; and he always ate with them, being treated with the greatest kindness.
