The bridge is across the Nile River at Jinja , the second busiest commercial centre in Uganda which was developed as the cross point of the Nile River and Kampala ( Capital ) ? Jinja ? Malaba ( Kenya ) International Trunk Road ( East ? West Direction ) for the land-locked Uganda .
The bridge links Uganda ? s land-locked neighbouring countries namely , Rwanda , Burundi and Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo to the India Ocean Coast port city of Mombasa ( Kenya ). The bridge will serve as a gateway for the most important Export / Import Northern Corridor Route ( NCR ) of Uganda .
The Jinjia bridge is a landmark project for Utracon which stands out above all past track record in bridges , in terms of its size , complexity and resources put into the project . Utracon subcontracted the entire construction works of the substructure and superstructure of the bridge including the installation of the cable stays which was the most challenging part of the construction works . Utracon managed to complete the bridge on time despite a huge delay in the piling works carried out by other subcontractor .
This is Utracon ? s first stay cable bridge project , and its successful completion symbolizes Utracon ? s rise through the ranks of bridge specialists to reach the level of technical competency on par with international bridge builder .
