To Leave Jamaica After First
Visit – Jamaican Ambassador
Ambassador Seth George Ramocan,
Is the Jamaican High Commissioner in
England, In this interview with SRTV,
the highly referred diplomat speaks on
Jamaica-England relationship, Tourism
In Jamaica and other issues. Excerpts:
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF YOUR EXCELLENCY
My name is Seth George Ramocan, I am the High Commissioner
of Jamaica since Dec 2016, this past Dec made it two years of me
in this post. My span of representation covers six countries (The
Nordic) that is Finland, Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and
Cyprus, quite a number of countries, before coming to this post, I
have served as the Consul General to Jamaican High commission
in Toronto, Canada. Prior to that, apart from been a minister of God
I have also served as a senator in our government in Jamaica.
These are few of the things I have really been involved in.
Its a great pleasure to be here in London particularly at this time
of a great historic development with Britain making its decision
and the activities surrounding their exit from Europe Union. That’s
quite a development because of its impact to the Commonwealth
Nations Jamaica included, and we are pretty much awaiting the
outcome.
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF SIR
Another interesting part of my work is about the Jamaican in
diaspora, Jamaica has a significant large number of diaspora here
in London and in United Kingdom in general, infact it is the second
largest grouping of all daisporas, largest been in the United states
of America. And here in Britain we are somewhere in the region
of millions of persons, by that I do not mean someone that have
travelled from Jamaica to live in Britain but also a generation of
persons, we have probably a generational depth of about five, we
are talking about fifth generation. This is very interesting because
the first barge of persons that arrived here from Jamaica was in
1948, this was the time Britain came out of the war and needed
support from across the world and many Jamaican were called
upon and of course from around the Caribbean to participate in
helping to rebuild Britain, and that has been a great success in
terms of the work done in all appearances. However interesting
development has been what manifests itself in a very large way
during the course of this past year 2018, which was the seventieth
year anniversary of arrival of the wind-rush and which in part really
brought about this significant large number of persons in any one
time coming into the United Kingdom.
