Stakeholders
I contacted three stakeholders, they were school counselors and members from hotlines. The school counselor was from Simpson Middle School and she said that there's a lot of peer pressure that goes on at that school, but it mostly happens when the students start 5th-6th grade and it eventually gets worse in later grades. She also said that they have small support groups and programs that they have for middle schoolers like ‘Second Step’ and ‘Why Try’. I also talked to a person running a Peer Pressure Hotline and she said that kids between the ages 8-18 call to talk to them because at that age range there's a lot of pressure that the kids experience because others believe that they should be a certain way. She also said that there's many things that people could do to prevent this. For example, there could be people in schools who talk about this issue to every kid personally. The next person that I talked to was a Youthline from Oregon, she said that teachers could do many things to help out with this issue like providing them resources and talk about it in the classroom more often.
I believe students should have safe environments where they won't be pressured to do something that would leave a negative impact on them. High schools should only have positive peer pressure, for example pushing your friend to help him/she to reach their goals that they need to work for.
