Diagnosing mental health issues is not as easy as diagnosing chronic diseases. While we have a blood test for diabetes, we do not yet have a blood test for depression or an x-ray for phobias. 800,000 people commit suicide every year, approximately one person every 40 seconds. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people aged between 13 and 29 globally as a result of depression. The number of hours given for training in mental health in medical schools and other health training institutions is limited and does not reflect the importance of this field as a contributor to morbidity, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
