The good news is that very little about Alice in Wonderland Syndrome deserves concern. Even though doctors are still trying to understand it better, they know that AIWS isn’t a problem with your eyes, a hallucination, or a mental or neurological illness. Rest assured that while this condition is disorienting, it is not proven harmful and it rarely causes any complications or problems in the future. The most worrisome aspect of it is the patient’s fear or confusion when they experience hallucinations before, during, or after episodes. Especially because these hallucinations feel 100% real and accurate to those experiencing them; and even if they are aware it’s not real, they could still think they are going crazy. With this in mind, diagnoses are useful as they can be vital to patients’ reassurance.
