Congratulations to the leaders and workers of YWAM Singapore on your 40th anniversary !
I remember well , decades ago in the 70s on one of my visits to Singapore , I helped to set up the legal board for YWAMSG with our dear Brother Goh . I have many precious memories of my time in Singapore throughout the 60s and 70s , when I got to know businessmen like C . K . Tang , the founder of TANGS Department Store , and later his son , Wee Sung , who serves on our global Advisory Board for the University of the Nations .
I observed the development of Singapore that progressed from a low-rise into a high-rise nation with tall buildings and a thriving economy . It became the corner of Asia where leaders wanted to come and see for themselves what visitors were calling the Western nation in Asia , because it reflected so much of the biblical , Christian worldview in its laws and government .
I watched God work amongst the medical communities , and had a closer glimpse of this when Dr . Bruce Thompson and Dr . Don Tredway ministered among them in the 80s .
I witnessed other moves of God ’ s Spirit , resulting in the growth of the body of Christ as I ministered among Christian churches of many different denominations in Singapore . So many of these places of worship were becoming powerhouses for God . Soon , they began to talk about Singapore as the ‘ Antioch of Asia ’.
When we recognise that over 70 % of the world ’ s population is Asian , we see how God has positioned Singapore with an amazing opportunity ; blessed with the recognition and anointing to impact the largest part of the world for the cause of the Gospel .
I trust that the next 40 years will be the greatest years of Singapore ’ s ministry into the nations , and that YWAM Singapore , through evangelism , training and its mercy ministries , will go deeper as it grows broader and higher in terms of reaching and ministering in great numbers throughout the whole world for God . May these be the golden decades of YWAM Singapore .
