DEBATING IN OUR SCHOOL DEBATING-3 We read CRIME AND PUNISMENT by Dostoyevsky. After reading we discussed about the plot, characters and setting in literature lesson. So we put forward different ideas and decided on debating about topic "People tend to commit crime from their birth they cannot change according to the circumtances ". Two opponent groups presented and defended their ideas to persusade the juries. Finally the juries were convinced with the idea "People tend to commit crime from their birth". The students were awarded by the school management. Abdullah KORKMAZ DEBATING- 2 After reading, LES MİSERABLES, we gathered in the school library to discuss the characters, plot and the settings in the novel. Our parents and we put forward different ideas and we talked about the message the writer tried to give the readers. So, one week later we gathered for the debating activity to discuss the topic "People tend to be convict from the birth or they can change if they are given a chance" Our families, friends, and teachers came to watch us. Our Literature and English teacher taught us about the criterias of debating. We gathered a lot of information and statistics about the topic within a week to defend our ideas and give a persuasive speech to the juries and the audience. DEBATING-1 9th Grades were inspired with the novel “The Lord of The Flies” and they put forward different ideas. So we organised a debating activity between 9th grades with the topic “Does Physical Apearance make people valuable” This activity really helped me to improve my idea and to gain experience and self-confidence. Before this activity, I hardly speak in front of people, but now I feel I mustn't be too shy while talking to the people. So debating is one of the few activities that builds self-confidence. Also it develops the capacity of critical-thinking. To me, debate is an opportunity for objective analysis to develop new ideas. Zeynep DURSUN 12/F -6-
