THE HISTORY OF KANUNI ANATOLIAN HIGH SCHOOL
The education activities in the building of
Kanuni Anatolian High School was first founded
in 1680 by Kiminti who came from the Athena
Academy in Budapest as a principal. With the settlement of Turkish. Republic
in 1923-1924 the Teachers School in Zağnos
moved here. Mustafa Resid Tarakçıoğlu did a lot
for the school to move .
The school -at beggining– educated
religious people. Later on , it
focused on the education of
teachers and supplied all the
schools in Balkan peninsula.
It raised religious people,
historians, scientists,
writers and merchants. It was visited by Kazım Karabekir on 3rd
October 1923 and Mustafa
Kemal Ataturk on 16th
September 1924.
Due to
some
reasons, schooling had to
have some breaks from
time to time. In upcoming years, the building
was no longer was used and it was destroyed in
1985.
It was rebuilt by Architect Kakudils with 15.000
golden liras gathered by some Rum merchants
and locals. It was opened on 15th September
1902 with the name “Frantistrian". It kept its
existance until the Liberty War. The school which
served for centuries to the purpose of spreading
of the Greek culture is accepted as theme valued
with Sumela Monastry. The building was used
for military purposes in the Liberty War times .
In 1933-1934 the
building of Trabzon High
school had a collapsing
danger. Due to this reason.
They came to this building as
guests. Trabzon High school
gots back to its own building
in 1940-194 and this building was reopened as
Kemerkaya Secondary School.
Then in 1975 changed back to Teachers
School and the school was closed down
completely..
In 1982 the building was given to Trabzon
Anatolian High school. The school kept this
name until 1995. In 1995 at the honor of Kanuni
Sultan Suleyman's 500th birth, the name of the
school was changed into Kanuni Anatolian High
School.
