WHO I’M ACTIVITY IN RIGA, LATVIA
stayed at Pera-Palace hotel, in the room 411. I wrote
“Murder On The Orient Express” in this room. It
wasv a room full of mystery for me.
As for the “Pale Horse” one of the most
important murder story. This story would save a
girl's life. She tried the medicine I mentioned in the
story. I felt very happy when I learnt this how a book
can save a reader's life.
Mr. Murple and Hercule Poirot are my
famous Charachters. Thiese books became best
sellers of all.
My books were translated to other
languages and readers call me “Queen Of Crime”.
Now, do you know me?
Who I’m?
Written by Berfin BEKTAŞ
I was born in 1890 in Devonshire, England.
As a child, I loved to hear and tell stories I was a
bright child but I never went to school.. My family
was comfortable but not wealthy. I was educated at
home by my mother. She always encouraged my
sisters and me to write.
When I was 18 years old I wrote my first
novel “The Mysterious Affair At Styles”. Then I wrote
my second novel “Murder Of Roger Ackroyd “. This
book made me famous.
I married to Coloneal Archibald Christie. I
was very successful writer. But marriage was
unhappy. My husband fell in love with a woman
named Nancy. I felt sı depressed when I learnt this.
And one day I got into my car and drove away and
disappeared for 11 days.
Thousand of police looked for me. One day
my car was found next to the lake, crashed into a
tree. They found me at the hotel room. But I never
explained the reason why I disappeared. The
newspaper wrote about me as a mystery writer. The
film makers didn't give up on the mystery.
Now I would like to talk about the part of my
life I caught the happiness. In 1930 I married Max
Mallowan. He was 14 years younger than me but we
were very happy. It's wonderful to be married to an
archeologist. The older you get, the more interested
he is in you.
I went on writing. I wrote 66 novels, 15 plays
and 157 short stories during my life.
I frequently visited İstanbul , Turkey. And I
-18-
When I learnt I was chosen for the
Project activity to perrform in Latvia, I felt
very happy. My teacher and I worked
together to prepare a biography of Agatha
Christie who we decided on after searching
various classic writers' life stories and their
contribution to the World Literature.
The activity is very different from
the others. Because I would act on stage
lonely which is called 'Who I'm?'. All
students from partner schools would act
famous writers from the World Literature
like me.. I learnt a lot about Agatha Christie
who is known as the queen of crime. Her
extraordinary life story full of mystery
affected me a lot. As for costume I had to
be careful to choose a costume reflects
Agatha Christie, this was very important
for me.
Finally, I was in Riga, Latvia. I was a
bit anxious when it is time to perform such
a successful author. At the end of the
performance when I heard the applause,
I completely forgot my excitement and I took
a deep breath.
I must confess that with this activity,
I gained more self-confidence and I believe
the importance of learning and speaking
foreign languages. Now I'm eager to
improve my English.
