Climate change has tremendous negative implications for both social justice and economic equality , because the most vulnerable demographics in society are disproportionately those who already have the least . Price increases will disproportionately disrupt those who are already struggling financially . Threats to health will primarily harm those that are already physically vulnerable - the elderly , the homeless and those with disabilities .
Risk : Increased frequency of rockfalls Key vulnerabilities :
• Pedestrians and drivers who regularly commute through traditionally prone areas such as Devil ’ s Tower Road
• Private property owners - particularly those in close proximity to The Rock or coastal cliff faces
Risk : Increased exposure to tropical diseases Key vulnerabilities :
• Immunocompromised individuals who will face a greater range of circulating diseases as warmer climates are the preferred conditions for disease-bearing insects like Tiger Mosquitos , which are already increasing in prevalence in Gibraltar .
Risk : Increased incidence of cancers Key vulnerabilities :
• Beachgoers who face an increased risk of skin cancer as UV radiation levels grow
• Smokers and those with respiratory conditions who will face an even greater risk of lung cancer as hotter conditions and wildfires increase global air pollution levels
• The general population , who could face greater exposure to gastrointestinal cancer as a consequence of disruptions to supply chains for a wide range of nutritional foods
