The
Case
For
Support
The Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville have preached the
Gospel; discerned the needs of the Church; and ministered
to God’s people for more than 163 years.
Through teaching, social work, education and advocacy, the
Sisters are called to a life of peace, justice and service. They
advocate for the poor and marginalized; immigrants; prison
inmates; victims of prostitution, human trafficking, natural
disaster and war. More often than not, the Sisters of St.
Dominic serve as the voice of the voiceless.
Currently 131 Sisters reside at the Motherhouse, 82 living in
Carlin Hall. Beyond the usual maintenance, the second floor
of Carlin Hall has not been updated in 30 years. Addressing
the future needs of our Sisters will require the complete
renovation of five restrooms providing facilities that are
both safe and dignified.
When a Sister is no longer able to age in place, she “comes
home” to the Motherhouse in Amityville. Here she can live
in a retirement community or, depending on her medical
needs, in Carlin Hall.
Renovation of the Motherhouse in Amityville and financial
support and housing for the retired Sisters remain at the
forefront of funding priorities of The Sisters of St. Dominic
of Amityville for the coming years. We are grateful to each
donor who shares our commitment to providing a safe,
secure home for our Sisters.
