Transition Year Event
Compass also runs a Transition Year Event and schools send 2 / 3 pupils each. The cost is € 145 per pupil and the parent association normally pays for their attendance. The next trip is in Glencree, Co. Wicklow from 4 th to 6 th April 2017. The programme will be delivered by Conexus Educate – Academic Tuition & Guidance.
Overview of Programme A two-day retreat experience, taking some time away from the busyness of school to reflect on important adolescent issues ranging from social skills to friendships, effective communication to self-leadership. The two days in Glencree will allow students to take stock of their personal development into young adulthood, reflecting on the values and motivators that are most important to them and will include the following elements:

1. Social Styles: how other people perceive us, the impressions we make and how much of ourselves we reveal.
2. Communication: developing listening skills. Connecting with others through open questioning.
3. Group time: accepting differences, dealing with difficult emotions e. g. anger.
4. Teamwork: c o m m u n i c a t i n g effectively, getting the job done while developing relationships.
5. Mindfulness and progressive muscular relaxation.
6. Friendships and relationships: setting our own standards and respecting those of others.
7. Outdoor work in teams: walking and building a shelter while focusing on communication and achieving set goals together. Debriefing each other on their approach to tasks and communication.
