In memory of
In memory of Ulf Hammarsköljd
We recently received sad news that our Chairman Emeritus Ulf Hammarskjold passed away on December 19, 2016. To says he was: a great guy” is an understatement! Although many wonderful things are being said about him, we in Philadelphia have a special place for him. In 1999 when SACC-Philadelphia was being formed, there was no money to start up the chapter, no place to locate the chapter and no staff to operate the chapter. At our first meeting Ulf was elected Chairman and Ulf stepped up and took command. He had just formed USSC, which manufactured seats for public transportation. In his factory, located in King of Prussia, he offered the new chapter free office space and his swedish office intern Ingvar to get the chapter up and running. That relationship continued as the chapter was becomming self sufficient and started to expand. Ulf’ s son took over the business and Ulf had retire then our intern at that time Johan Nordbrandt, our current Vice President and Treasurer indicated the chapter had an opportunity to move to an office in the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce in center city Philadelphia. As they say the rest is History. Britt and I had the additional opportunities to visit with Ulf and Maud in Marco Island Florida in laster years.
