Notification in this regard comes twice in an year, in June and December. Applicant should be in the age group of 17 to 19½ years and should have passed the Senior Secondary Examination( 10 + 2 Pattern) or its equivalent examinations from any Board with at least 70 % aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics( PCM) and at least 50 % marks in English( either in Class X or Class XII). Applicants will be issued call up for Services Selection Board( SSB) based on their class XII( PCM) percentage or‘ JEE( Main) rank’ based on their choice. JEE Score is going to be mandatory for recruitments from January 2018 batch. The process of SSB Interview is similar to that for the NDA entry
Selected Candidates will be inducted as Cadets for four year B Tech course in applied Electronics & Communication or Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala. During the course, Cadets will be allotted Executive or Engineering including Naval Architect specialisation or Electrical Branch.
On completion of the course, B Tech Degree will be awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University( JNU). The entire cost of training, including books and reading material, will be borne by the Indian Navy. 10 + 2 Technical Entry Scheme is offered by the Indian Army too, to unmarried male candidates. Applicants should be in the age group of 16 ½ to 19½ years as on first day of the month in which course is due to commence. Notifications can be expected in in May / June & October / November every year. Applicant should have passed 10 + 2 with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with an aggregate of 70 %. Yet another entry is through Armed Forces Medical College affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. Those desirous of doing MBBS and enter the medical profession in the Defence forces can try for admission to the Armed Forces Medical College at Pune. Girls are also admitted to the MBBS course at AFMC. Those admitted have compulsory liability to serve as Commissioned Officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services.
The offer of the type of commission will depend upon the vacancies available and shall be determined on merit-cum-option at the final MBBS examination. The liability of the SSC officers passing out of AFMC to serve in the Armed Forces Medical Services would be seven years. On successful completion of MBBS from AFMC, cadets join the Armed Forces Medical Services as Commissioned Officers in one of Army, Navy or Air Force. On the basis of merit-cum-choice 50 % of the medical cadets are offered Permanent Commission( PC) and the rest Short Service Commission( SSC).
