Skill-based education holds tremendous potential for reaping benefits offered by the demographic dividend of the state. The small state of Kerala, which has already established a name by being a major manpower provider for the world, holds tremendous potential in becoming a favored destination for quality human resource. It is to realize this goal that the Government of Kerala launched an ambitious initiative, the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme through its General and Higher Education Departments.
ASAP has made a significant impact upon the undergraduate education in the state and the colleges. Development of communication skills in English in students through experiential learning methodologies as envisaged in the ASAP Curriculum has shown new teaching-learning strategies in higher education. Skill Development Centers in Government Colleges that offer skill courses to students with the participation of reputed Training Service Providers has opened new vistas in Industry-Academia linkages in Higher Education. The programme is still growing thereby giving more benefits to higher education in the state. The 2014-15 report being presented here chronicles the growth of ASAP and its impact on education in the state. As the programme enters its fourth year of existence, the results of the previous years give hope and motivation for even greater achievements.
I take this opportunity to congratulate and wish the team all success.
