TELECOM SECTOR

In 2014-15 the ASAP Telecom sector offered five courses in Regular and two courses in Summer Skill Skool. Internships and placement drives were conducted in the sector as a result of which more than 60 students got placed in firms like Eureka Forbes, First Source, Digicall, NEST and UTL Technologies. The ASAP-EBEN Telecom Placement Programme held at the SDC in SL Puram, Alappuzha was inaugurated by Dr. K. P. Jaikiran, Head Curriculum Design. Seventy students got placed in the drive.

Business Advisory Committee Meeting

BAC meeting of the sector was held on 15th October 2015 at Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of Dr. Reju M T( CEO ASAP), Shri. P Anil Prasad( Head – Life Long Learning, Telecom & Logistics) and Ms. Lakshmi Mohan Sector Programme Manager( Logistics and Telecom) and invited BAC members constituted the discussion Panel. The meeting observed that multi Skilling strategy that imparts specific skills and a generic approach are essential in skilling. Meeting called for designing location- / situation- specific courses and courses imparting multiple job role experiences. Developing an attitude suitable to the job environment was identified as the need of the hour in the Telecom sector. Further, it was suggested that, along with providing domain skills, the courses should also be able to develop a positive working attitude and urge for continuous improvement in the prospective employees. Service quality, Telephone Etiquettes, Communication skills and proficiency were identified as the key requirements for the Telecom industry.

Keeping in view the severe dearth of manpower faced by the industry in customer relations and marketing, it was advised to introduce courses in those areas along with those in the also telecom manufacturing sector. Suggestions came up that many job roles in the Telecom Sector can be combined as one course and can be formulated with fresh ideas. Trainer quality was identified as the key factor deciding the overall performance of a student and taking that into consideration members agreed to provide Master Trainers from the industry.
