MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT SECTOR
In 2014-15 Media and Entertainment sector offered two courses each in Regular and Summer Skill Skool in the subsectors Media, Film and Animation.
Business Advisory Committee Meeting- Film
The first Business Advisory Committee Meeting for the Media & Entertainment sector was convened at Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram on 23rd July 2015 in the presence of Dr. K M Abraham IAS( Additional Chief Secretary Finance, Higher Education and Social Justice), Shri. Anil Prasad( Head-Lifelong Learning, ASAP) Shri. Vivekanandan Nair( Head- Communication, ASAP), Programme Managers- Smt. Aparna Sreekala, Ms Lakshmi Mohan, Ms. Tasneem Nizar, Shri. Sujith J and invited BAC members constituted the discussion panel. As film is a field where creative and innovative ideas are required, the panel suggested that courses offered should be focused on the specific area giving adequate importance to the basics in the beginning. The discussions turned out to be productive and experts suggested the job roles that suit introductory courses. The committee revisited the courses offered and suggested shifting the courses like sound engineering to the basic level.
Business Advisory Committee Meeting- Animation
Being a sector where dynamic up gradation takes place, a serious consultation with the industry experts was in demand. The BAC committee meeting convened at Mascot hotel, Thiruvananthapuram on 27th October 2015 was based on this realization. Dr Reju M T, IAS( CEO, ASAP). Shri M K Vivekanandan Nair( Head, Communication ASAP), ASAP Programme Managers- Smt Aparna Sreekala, Shri Sujith, Shri Raja, Smt. Shibina and the invited BAC members constituted the discussion panel. A productive discussion on the job roles and course titles suggested altering names according to the desired job roles. Committee also suggested fresh and demanding courses and new course titles which will enable the students to identify the exact course focus. Software and tools used were analyzed and a change was suggested to the ones that share the major market attention. Ready absorption of students was found to be immediate the outcome of this shift. Initiatives were suggested and positive responses were obtained. Serious discussions on student identification apart from aptitude test were suggested and students with creativity were observed as the most suitable ones. Course up gradation, duration and quality of internship were also discussed.
