LOGISTICS SECTOR
The Logistics sector offered one course each in Regular and Summer Skill Skool in the subsector Ware housing storage in the year 2014-15. Sector has offered internship in reputed firms and placed students in firms such as KTC Ernakulam and Safexpress, Kochi.
Business Advisory Committee Meeting
First Business Advisory Committee meeting of the Logistics Sector was held on 8th October 2015 at Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram and was chaired by Dr. Reju M T( CEO, ASAP). Shri. P Anil Prasad( Head – Life Long Learning, Telecom and Logistics), Ms. Lakshmi Mohan( Sector Programme Manager, Logistics) and invited BAC members constituted the discussion panel. Logistics plays an important role in the economy of every nation and the growth prospects of the sector are closely linked to economic growth. Quality human resource in this sector is needed for overall development. BAC Committee, formed to address this basic need of the industry, concentrated on the quality concerns of the ASAP courses.
Adversities being faced by the logistics sector in our State was seriously taken into consideration and this pointed out the lack of adequate infrastructure, promotion of inland transportation and development of freight corridors in waterways. The committee observed that placement opportunities were abundant as requirements of young people for the transportation sub sector of the logistics sector is tremendous.
It was pointed out that none of the proposed courses has high employability in the industry. Also, long term internships were suggested for students, as it requires a minimum Three months to one year experience for a person to get acquainted with the job role.
