The ASAP Construction Sector offered 5 courses in regular stream and one course in Summer Skill Skool in various subsectors including construction and electrical works and Real estate and infrastructure construction during the year 2014-15.
Business Advisory Committee Meeting
Business Advisory Committee meeting of the construction sector was held on 23rd July, 2015 at Sopanam Hall, Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram for discussions for bringing in more skill courses in the sector and also to facilitate internship and placements for students. Dr. M T Reju IAS, Chief Executive Officer ASAP. Shri. Deepu R. K, Head- Finance, ASAP, Programme Managers- Shri. Anoop R, Smt. Shalini S Raju and Shri. Sarin S Panicker attended the meeting along with invited BAC Members as the panel members.
The meeting was decisive for construction sector as ASAP construction sector courses are on initial stage of progress and a resourceful guidance from industry experts is crucial. The BAC forum is expected to rejuvenate the skill development initiatives in Construction sector, setting benchmarks of skill training which can be emulated by rest of the world.
The need for basic construction literacy which include awarness about disaster management and proper insulation which plays a vital role in creating skilled labours ensuring effective usage of resources was pointed out by the meeting. Syllabus up gradation according to the need of the sector was identified as a priority. Industry experts offered their support for arranging internship centers satisfying desired quality standards.
Identification of new courses and job roles constituted the core discussion point. Numerous courses relevant to the present scenario in the construction sector were suggested by the members. Support from experts were ensured in the areas- Curriculum vetting and Internships, new course identification, utilization of networks to enable quality and timely internship, support to ASAP in its Training of Trainer programme and provision of competent trainers to ASAP according to the requirements. Support was also offered in developing modules on new technologies & software, syllabus of Quantity Surveyor, incorporating new technologies and modules on software and modules on disaster management in the syllabus.
