The boys or Kopi Boyz as they call themselves
have been trained under the Singapore
Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) framework
to describe and recommend coffee products,
grind and brew coffee using a commercial coffee
machine and prepare and serve the above
coffee varieties.
The training prepares them to be full-fledged
baristas upon their release and their weekly
visits to St Joseph’s Home lets them hone their
skills while doing good. Each session sees the
boys taking orders, making and serving up
piping hot cups of comfort.
Since commencing coffee service at St Joseph’s
Home in July 2017, the boys have made
• 50 coffee cups on average each week, and
• More than 150 cups at major events such as
our open house and mid-autumn festival
Coffee aside, some of the boys also serve
up great hits like The Eagles’ Hotel California
acapella style.
What do the residents think?
Says Veronica Tan “Sometimes i can’t sleep till
2am but i still drink the coffee because it’s really
nice!”
