On the night of July 27, 2018, the
Moon entered the longest lunar eclipse
of the 21st century. Here it is seen with
Mars rising over the village of Tellaro,
Italy, and the Gulf of La Spezia, also
known as the Gulf of Poets.
DETAILS: Canon EOS 500D with 18-to-
35-mm zoom lens at 24 mm. Composite of
52 images, each exposed for 2 seconds at
ISO 100, f/5.6.

The intricate yet obscure super-
nova remnant CTB-1 in Cassio-
peia is roughly 10,000 light-years
from Earth and about 36 arcsec-
onds in diameter.
DETAILS: Stellarvue SV70T refrac-
tor with ZWO ASI1600MM-Pro
CMOS camera. Total exposure: 50.4
hours through Astrodon color and
narrowband fi lters.
