early atomic theory. He is the first to use
letters to denote elements and lines for
chemical bonds.

Thomas Andrews, at Queen’s University
Belfast, is the first to make liquid gas,
now vital in refrigeration, medicine
and industry.

It is said that Waterford born Robert Boyle
was the “Father of Modern Chemistry”, he
went on to establish Boyle’s Law, a law that
relates the pressure and volume of an
ideal gas.
