The MSc “Global Health - Disaster Medicine”
The MSc ”Global Health – Disaster Medicine” is a 2-year-long post-graduate programme, of the
Medical School of Athens, focusing in medical aspects of natural and manmade disasters.
It aims to provide both advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and enhance the professional
skills of physicians (55% - 60% in each academic year), other healthcare professionals (25% - 30%
in each academic year) and social scientists (15% - 17% in each academic year). The scientific
knowledge provided spreads to the following fields: Public Health, Refugee Health, Health and
Human Rights, Social Aspects of Health, Humanitarian Medicine, Global Health, Emergency
Medicine, Disaster - Major Health Crisis Management, Risk Communication etc.
More than 40% of our 2014-2016 graduate students are currently working in national and
international non-profit organisations, as well as agencies operating in the sector of public health.
The programme has also been recognised as one of the top three MSc programmes in the Medical
School of Athens in 2015.
It also collaborates with a wide range of academic partners and public authorities in Greece and
abroad. Eminent examples are the Emergency Medicine Departments of the University of Bern in
Switzerland and the USUHS in Bethesda, USA. The programme is acknowledged and supported by
an international committee of academics from more than 15 countries around the world.
