I am presently mid-way through my
Traineeship at Baltinglass OETC. I can say with
hand on heart that participation on this course
has genuinely been one of the best experiences
of my life.
I feel that this course has helped me to
regain a sense of direction, purpose and self-
worth that a couple of “heavy blows” which I
received in recent years had left my career &
subsequently my confidence “on the canvas”.
The huge sense of achievement & serenity
that I have experienced whilst developing
my personal skills has been unbelievable
particularly in relation to Kayaking & Rock
climbing - especially as both activities were
totally alien to me.

Let me be clear that this experience is not for
the feint hearted - it’s by no means easy &
quite frequently it’s not even that pleasant
but it is however very real and very rewarding.
It’s possibly as close as you can get to “Boot
Camp” for civilians! I haven’t even mentioned
the excellent cardio workout & navigational
skills we have received from the Hill
