My name is Noeleen Murphy, and I am currently doing my QQI level 5 in Healthcare Support with Wicklow Further Education and Training Centre, The Murrough, Wicklow Town. I am a Care Assistant working with Wicklow Community Services for the last fifteen years. The HSE decided to bring in legislation that all care assistants should be QQI qualified and trained professionally. This would improve the quality of care for people who needed it. This training was something I wanted to do for a long time, as I wanted to improve on my care skills and explore and learn about other areas of care. Although our company had put us through the essential training it was compulsory that all carers should have the QQI Healthcare Support level 5 award which consisted of eight modules for our company to obtain the care packages all carers had to have this Award.
This course has taught me so much it has made me more confident and professional. It will help me to be a better carer, I find myself using words that I never used before, and it has also created so many opportunities for me. Thanks to Wicklow Further Education and Training Centre people can return to adult education, I would advise people not to be afraid to take that step‘’ for there is no one stopping you but you,’’ we are never too old to learn. This is my first time back to education in forty years, and it has been an amazing journey, if I can do it, so can you!
