The position that the actors have to hold embodies feelings of despair and resignation.
A Monument For Those Who Wait was an event in which I invited performers to stand on The Fith Plinth and follow the above set of stage directions.
My intention was to represent the absence of hope that people that face chronic waiting experience. At the same time I wanted to give greater visibility to those who wait in conditions of uncertainty and precarity and who often remain tossed aside and unseen. for this reason the performers were placed on the plinth.
The work reflects the feeling of anyone that may be experiencing chronic waiting however at the time news on refugee crisis were constant on the news and their fate occupied a large proportion of my thoughts. Because of this I used the event to fundraise for the charity Calais Action which helps refugees mouth in Calais, Dunkirk and Greece. The event raised £ 100
